Insurance
The
statutory accident insurance at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences covers
the accidents and occupational diseases arising from such accidents that
students may have encountered during their studies or practical training. To
receive reimbursement for an accident or occupational disease, the accident must
have occurred in conditions characteristic of studying, i.e. during lectures and
other forms of teaching, practical training and in places as required by the
course, teacher or institution. Students are also covered when travelling
directly to and from school and the practical training workplace. The insurance
does not cover normal, everyday travelling to and from the school and place of
residence; nor does it cover accidents that occur in students' free time.
The
statutory accident insurance is also valid abroad under certain conditions.
Students who wish to study or work abroad must always sort out in advance the
necessary insurance and other social security needed during travel, as well the
statutory requirements in the country of destination. Students may contact the
international coordinators in their school or Seinäjoki UAS's Manager of
International Affairs Helli Kitinoja if they need more information pertaining to
insurance and studying/working abroad.
The UAS
also has an optional group accident insurance, which covers students during the
actual school hours, during teaching, when doing gymnastics, during breaks after
lessons, and when participating in the institution's extra-curricular activities
organised at the school such as sports competitions, excursions, visits to
exhibitions, museums, factories, etc. and trips directly to and from school. The
insurance is valid all over the world under certain conditions.
To receive
compensation from the insurance, the accident must have been sudden bodily harm
caused by and external force that occurred involuntarily on the part of the
insured. This insurance does not cover sickness. If a student's eyeglasses have
been broken in an accident, the insurance will reimburse the student for new
glasses if (s)he has purchased them within two months after the accident. To
receive compensation, the insured must have a visible mark or injury.

students coming to study at Seinäjoki UAS, as well as Seinäjoki UAS students,
who are planning to conduct a part of their studies abroad, should acquire their
own personal health, travelling and free time insurances.
Seinäjoki UAS recommends the incoming non-EU/EEA-students to acquire their
health insurance required for a residence permit through
MARSH insurance company.
International students coming from EU countries should acquire their personal
insurances and the free
European Health Insurance Card before leaving from their home country.
