Specific
arrangements for recognition of prior learning
In the Degree Programme in
Nursing, the recognition of prior learning is based on the generic and
profession- specific (Registered Nurse's and Registered Public Health Nurse's)
competence requirements. The student can apply for the recognition of prior
learning during the autumn semester until the date 30.9. and during the spring
semester until the date 31.1. The members of the RPL team (AHOT in Finnish) in
the DP in Nursing are Raija Palo, Head of DP in Nursing, Tellervo Pihlaja,
Student Counsellor, Tarja Knuuttila, Lecturer, and Marja Toukola, Senior
Lecturer.
The Student Counsellor will
describe the process of the recognition of prior learning as part of the course
"Studies in the University of Applied Sciences". If justified, the student can
then approach the Student Counsellor to discuss starting the process of the
recognition. The student will assess her or his competences against the goals of
the study course or module and gather all the necessary documentary evidence.
The appendices to the application form must include the student's explanation of
prior learning as it relates to the learning outcomes of the respective course
or module. All the documents concerning the recognition of prior learning,
addressed to the RPL (AHOT) team, are forwarded to the Student Counsellor.
The RPL team will receive
the application and the documentary evidence and forward them to one of the
expert lecturers, who will assess the evidence, decide on the need for further
demonstration of skills and knowledge, assess the demonstrations in relation to
the expected learning outcomes and finally decide on the recognition of prior
learning. The lecturer will also enter the results onto the Winha registration
system. If the course is taught by a visiting lecturer, the RPL team will be
responsible for the assessment and decision-making.
The RPL
decisions are subject to current guidelines on outdated studies and appeal
practices, given in the
Degree Regulations of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences.
Part of the field and degree programme-specific studies remain outside the RPL
practice.
