Learning Outcomes

Students will understand the fundamental principles of statics. They will be competent in applying the theory of statics to statically determined structures

Student's Workload

The total work load of this course is 80 hours consisting of 40 hours of scheduled studies and 40 hours of self-studies.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

No previous studies are required.

Contents

Fundamental laws of mechanics, splitting forces into their components, combining of force systems, moment of a force with respect to a point and axle, equilibrium of a particle, equilibrium of a rigid body, centre of gravity calculations, statically determinate beams, equilibrium of a particle system and systems of rigid bodies

Recommended or Required Reading

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

- Interactive lectures
- Exercises

Assessment Criteria

A satisfactory grade is reached by carrying out the exercises and mastering the fundamentals of statics. This means that the student is able to solve at least two problems of the the five ones given. A good grade is reached by solving at least three problems of the five ones given. An excellent grade can be earned only by solving four basic problems correctly and in addition to that, by solving a challenging problem, the significance of wich is clearly indicated on the examination paper.

Assessment Methods

- Two interim tests or one final exam
- Approved exercises
