Learning Outcomes

Students are able to define a foundation for ethical action and the related theoretical concepts. They can explain general ethical principles, values of social work and principles of professional ethics. They are able to name what principles of professional ethics are involved in their future work as Bachelors of Social Services and to evaluate and describe the meaning of these principles. Students are familiar with international human rights agreements and ethical guidelines for health and social services. Students are able to define the concept of reflection and interpret its meaning in social field work. They have basic skills in reflection. Students are aware of the unique nature of individuals. They are able to detect value conflicts and seek solutions based on professional ethics. Students assume responsibility for their action and for the consequences of the action. They know and apply the principles of sustainable development. Students are aware of the importance of promoting equality and tolerance and of preventing disadvantage in regional, national and global environments.

Grade 5:
Students
- are able to describe and analyse critically ethical questions of social work
- indicate sensitivity in professional ethics
- are able to recognize, define and solve moral and ethical phenomena on different levels
- indicates commitment and preparedness in different ethical and value-based questions
Grade 3-4:
Students
- recognize and interprets connections between social work, human rights agreements and sustainable development
- are able to explain and evaluate social questions
- reflect one’s individual values and courses of action
Grade 1-2:
Students
- recognize principles and challenges of ethical activities
- are aware of importance of social work, effects of human rights agreements and sustainable development
- shows interest in social questions

Assessment Methods

Evaluation consists of:
- working during lectures and independent assignmnet 25%
- individual exam 75%
