Learning Outcomes
WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE
Students extend their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, improve pronunciation and spoken and written language skills. Furthermore, they get better acquainted with Finnish culture and habits. Students learn some basic vocabulary of nursing and understand some essential nursing activities in Finnish. The course is linked with the course Basic skills and knowledge in nursing. The target level of the course is A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. After the course, students are able to tell about themselves, their families, hobbies and living and are able to tell about their work using simple phrases. Students are able to ask and explain the way e.g. at their work place and understand common, predictable phrases and messages. They understand simple texts and know how to find predictable information in them and are able to write short notes and messages about things related to everyday needs. Students can cope with simple everyday business in shops and predictable situations at work and cope with short conversations when the conversational partner is prepared to help. Students recognize basic vocabulary of nursing and some expressions related to nursing activities and are able to list various activities related to nursing. Students know Finland as a country and some facts about the Finnish culture.

Contents
Expressions of amount. Food and drink vocabulary; ordering food and drinks in cafés and restaurants. Telling about one's hobbies. Living. Asking and telling the way e.g. in a hospital.
Grammar: adjectives, partitive case, verb types and verb conjugation, local cases, consonant gradation of nouns. Finland and Finnish culture. Portfolio: vocabulary and verbs of nursing and interaction in the nursing branch. Portfolio: writing a nursing care plan. Portfolio: vocabulary of anatomy and physiology.
