Learning Outcomes

Students will learn to write a professional essay, related to one area or problem in elderly care, which demands ethical reflection. They will be able to define a topic and to combine personal thought and appropriate literature to produce ethical reflection.
They will know how to structure the essay, including referencing, and how to act as opponents to peer students.
They will exhibit a personal, creative and enquiring approach to their writing.

Assessment Criteria

Level 1 (grade 1-2)
Students are able to write a professional essay to describe one area or problem in the ethics of elderly care. They are able to define a topic, to write some original text and to use source material. They know how to structure the essay, including referencing and how to act as opponents to peer students.They demonstrate an original and professional approach to their essay.

Level 2 (grade 3-4)
Students are able to write a professional essay in which they describe one area or problem in the ethics of elderly care from multiple perspectives. They are able to define a topic, write some original text and integrate it with source material. They know how to structure the essay, including referencing and how to act as opponents to peer students.They demonstrate an original, enquiring and professional approach to their essay.

Level 3 (grade 5)
Students are able to write a professional essay in which they analyse one area or problem in the ethics of elderly care from multiple perspectives. They are able to define a topic and to integrate original text with appropriate source material in their reflection. They know how to structure the essay, including referencing and how to act as opponents to peer students.They demonstrate an original, enquiring and professional approach to their essay.

Assessment Methods

Essay and seminar work will be assessed numerically.
