Learning Outcomes

COMPETENCE IN CUSTOMERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE, DECISION-MAKING COMPETENCE AND ETHICAL COMPETENCE

Students will, under supervision, be competent in identifying the needs of adult patients and their families and in planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting treatments. Under supervision, they will be able to give reports orally. They will also be competent in dealing with patients in various life situations. They will understand the principles of patient-orinted, resource-based and multi-professional nursing of patients and their families. In their actions, students will demonstrate understanding of ethical and data protection principles and guidelines.

CLINICAL COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in identifying and assessing changes and disorders in patients'vital functions and will, under supervision, be able to initiate nursing interventions. Under supervision, students will recognize the individual rehabilitation needs of medical-surgical patients and seek to support the patients during the rehabilitation process. They will, under supervision, be able to prepare patients for procedures and monitor and care for them during and after the treatment. Students will work aseptically to prevent infections. They will have knowledge of common examinations and samples, and they will, under supervision, know how to prepare patients for them. Students will, under supervision, be able to plan and safely implement adult patients' intravenous fluid and drug treatment and blood transfusions and to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatments. They will also learn to implement nutrional treatment. They will be familiar with the more common medical-surgical diseases, diagnostic methods and treatments at general practice level. Students will learn to recognize pain in medical-surgical adult patients and will, under supervision, plan and implement pain control and evaluate its effectiveness.

COMPETENCE IN HEALTH PROMOTION

In their work, students will observe the principle of promoting and supporting the health and resources of adult clients. Students will learn the main factors that influence adult people's health and illness.

COUNSELLING AND MENTORING COMPETENCE

Students will, under supervision, be able to use research and evidence-based knowledge to counsel adult clients in situations concerning health and illness. Students will plan, implement and evaluate counselling situations under supervision.

LEARNING COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in critically evaluating their level of professional expertise, including their strenghts and weaknesses. Students will evaluate their learning skills and needs and the learning environment.
