Learning Outcomes

Students are able to promote good and safe aging. Students know elderly people's health needs and the special features of promoting their health. Students are able to carry out health examinations, anticipatory home visits and also contribute to the promotion of elderly people's functional capacity. Students are able to participate in multi-professional collabaration and in planning services for the elderly (home care, management of home care teams, membership in teams assessing needs for out-of-home care). Students are able to utilize health technology in public health nursing of elderly clients.

Contents

Influence of aging on individuals and their families. Health examinations and anticipatory home visits. Health promotion (nutrition, exercise, safety and prevention of accidents, mental health, mouth care, sexuality, intoxicants). Special features in elderly people's health promotion. Possibilities of health technology in health promotion. Social security and home care benefits for elderly clients (Social Security Institution Kela Website). Multi-professional collaboration in the promotion of aging people's health and wellbeing.
