Learning Outcomes

Students will understand the structural designing process and be competent in defining and performing related tasks for load-bearing frames.

Student's Workload

Total work load of the course: 133 h

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

All structural design courses are required.

Contents

Students will choose construction material and design a load-bearing frame system based on the construction drawings of an architect. They will consider actions on the frame and the frame's static model as well as the bracing of the frame. They will do structural design calculations for the frame's parts and learn about the different types of structures and their structural physics (dampness, heat, sound). Students will also make structural designs.

Recommended or Required Reading

Material acquired previously during one's studies and appropriate additional material acquired independently.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Learning by doing alone and in groups.

Assessment Criteria

1 Student knowns the basics of the course
3 Student knowns the contents of the course well
5 Student knowns the contents of the course well and can apply their knowledge in practice

Assessment Methods

Assessment is based on the designing assignment.
