Learning Outcomes

Students have sufficient knowledge of the society and culture of the country, especially on the local level, to be able to cope in everyday life. They will also learn where to seek additional information. Students understand the structure of social work education in Finland and compare it with their own education. Students understand the content, pedagogical ideas and structure of the studies undertaken in Seinäjoki UAS. Students will learn to know the professional fields in which Bachelors of Social Services work in Finland. Students will understand the role and position of Bachelors of Social Services in the professional field. They will also have extensive knowledge of systems that provide welfare and social security in various sectors in Finland

Student's Workload

- 6 hours for the orientation day
- 32 hours for classroom activities and field trips
- 40 hours for the student's individual work

The learning environment and support services at Seinäjoki UAS. The structure of social work education in Finland compared to the respective education in other countries. Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Introductory lectures and discussions, orientation days at Seinäjoki UAS, filed trips to various sectors in the social work field. A written reflection on students' learning experiences and learning process. A presentation on students' education in their home country.

Assessment Criteria

Active participation in lessons and discussion and field trips. Pass (3)/fail: The grade pass means that the student's performance must equal to grade 3 (good), which is equivalent to the grade C in the ECTS grading system.
Students understand the role and position of Bachelors of Social Services in the social field in Finland.

Assessment Methods

The course will be assessed pass/fail. Active participation in classroom activities, in the orientation day and in field trips is expected. Familiarization with the work of a social services professional as agreed upon with the teacher. Students will write a reflective essay at the end of their exchange period.
