Learning Outcomes

Students will be introduced to the educational aims of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and to the studies and activities offered at the University and at their own school. They will learn about the staff and student support services. They will familiarize themselves with the elderly care curriculum and understand its basis, aims and pedagogical approaches as a foundation for their studies. By participating in group processes, they will learn to know themselves better and study their interaction skills based on theoretical knowledge. Students will also learn to analyse their interaction when working with elderly clients.

Student's Workload

52 hours, students will be informed of the number of classroom and seminar activity at the beginning of the course. This course runs throughout the ecudation, with major part undertaken during the first year.

Pass: Students are familiar with the educational objectives of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and with the educational and other opportunities offered by Seinäjoki UAS and the School of Health Care and Social Work. Students know well the staff and support services at their School. They understand the background and aims of their degree programme and see how the pedagogical approach is the foundation of their studies.

In their group, students contribute actively to the creation of community spirit and learn to understand their interaction skills based on theoretical knowledge. Students also know how to analyse their interaction with elderly clients.

Fail: Students are not familiar with the educational objectives of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences or with the educational and other opportunities offered by Seinäjoki UAS and the School of Health Care and Social Work. They do not adequately know the staff or support services at their School. They do not understand the background or aims of their degree programme or see how the pedagogical approach is the foundation of their studies.

Students are passive and do not contribute to the creation of community spirit in their group and they do not understand the meaning of their interaction skills in the group. Their interaction with elderly clients is lacking.
