Learning Outcomes

The student can name various types, periods and genres of modern literature from around the world. He can describe and explain historical and societal events which have influenced the literature dealt with during the course. He has read samples of important classics and can discuss them. He can describe how the literature has influenced the field of culture.

Student's Workload

Total workload of the course is 135 h which includes scheduled studies and group work, individual studying, writing a study journal and peer learning and peer assessment.
This work load excludes reading of classics to be read during the course.

British and North American literature (tuition in English)
Slavic literature

North European literature (tuition partly in Swedish)

Latin American and Spanish literature

Assessment Criteria

The student has completed all the course tasks but hasn’t always followed the timetables or instructions.
The student can name only a few classics, periods and genres of the modern world literature. His knowledge of authors and classics as well as the understanding of societal events at the background is superficial.
The student has written the study journal but the familiarity with the course topics and reflection seem facile. He hasn’t written his study journal on the regular basis.

He has read samples of classics and is able to discuss them.
He can describe historical and societal events which influence the literature dealt with during the course.
He has written the study journal on the regular basis and followed the given instructions.

The student has completed all the course tasks according to the deadlines and instructions.
The student has read several classics. He has shown much interest in the topics and has been active in discussions of literature.
He can well describe historical and societal events which have influenced the modern literature dealt with during the course.
He has written the study journal on the regular basis following the given instructions. In his study journal, he has shown interest in the course topics by having searched further information and having expressed own opinions and viewpoints.

Active participation in contact lessons during which both peer and teachers’ assessments will be implemented.
Short exams
Peer assessment of study journals
Tasks and assignments of each topic and the study journal are to be accomplished during the course and according to the deadlines. Late submissions influence the final grade.
