Learning Outcomes

CUSTOMERSHIP IN PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING

Students will assume responsibility for clients' internal and external safety. They will use dialogic discussion and client-centred practices to encourage participation of clients' families and significant others.

MENTORING AND COUNSELLING

Students
using appropriate methdos, will know how to counsel individuals/families on the maintenance and promotion of health and on self-care. Students will learn the significance of individuality, self-determination and participation in counselling.

HEALTH PROMOTION COMPETENCE

As future experts of health promotion, public health nurse students will learn to see the health of individuals, families and communities and the sustainable development of environment as startpoints and goals of public health nursing. Students will learn to promote clients' and their families' health-awareness, resources and self-initiative. If necessary, students will know how to intervene to fight health risks. They will learn to engage in client-centred and goal-oriented interaction with individuals/families and multi-sectoral teams. Students will also learn to evaluate and argue for the outcomes and effectiveness of health promotion.

DECISION MAKING COMPETENCE AND COMPETENCE IN PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING OF INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, GROUPS AND COMMUNITIES

Students will learn to make decisions in public health nursing and create target-orientied nursing relationships with clients and their families. They will observe data protection and safety to protect client documents and information. They will
learn to recognise phases in clients' growth and development and follow up their clients' health status, growth and development. Students will recognise clients' and their families' resources and risk factors and know how to support clients. They will be competent to interact confidentially and openly with clients and their families. They will take into consideration clients' cultural background when planning and implementing public health nursing. Students will learn to use evidence-based public health nursing methods on the level of individuals, families and communities. They will know how to use health technology. They will learn to assess the effect of communities and environment on people's health and to propose improvements that promote people's health and ability to function. As regards the promotion of national health, students will become aware of global health risks and their prevention. They will learn to prevent infectious diseases and implement the official vaccination programme.
