Learning Outcomes

Students will have command of psychosocial and other social work approaches, especially those linked with the sector they have chosen. Students will know how to act in a client-centred manner according to the situation and they will understand client needs. Students will be able to describe what a goal-oriented client work process involves and apply this knowledge to their work. They will learn to evaluate the impact of various work methods on the client's situation. They will know how to support and counsel individual clients and client groups in everyday life. Students will evaluate their action from the perspective of professional ethics. They will learn how to act as responsible members of a working community.

Student's Workload

7 weeks of practical training = 260 hours, with the same working hours as the workplace supervisor.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

- Practical training: Social services providing social security
- Sector studies: workshop and Social services and social security benefits
- The study course "Analysis of contemporary practices in social work" will be undertaken at the same time with the practical training period and it also serves as an assignment for the practical training.

- Assessing clients' social situation and needs
- Planning, implementation and evaluation of a client-centred social-service process
- Students will undertake their practical training in a social sector relevant to their studies.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Introductory lectures, practical training in the field placement, learning assignments, feedback discussions.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 3 (equals pass):
Students have command of psychosocial and other social work approaches, especially those linked with the sector they have chosen. Students know how to act in a client-centred manner according to the situation and they understand client needs. Students are able to describe what a goal-oriented client work process involves and apply this knowledge to their work. They evaluate the impact of various work methods on the client's situation. They know how to support and counsel individual clients and client groups in everyday life. Students evaluate their action from the perspective of professional ethics. They are able to act as responsible members of a working community.

Assessment Methods

Pass/Fail. The assessment will be based on the objectives defined for the curriculum and on the student's personal objectives. Students also need to write and present an analysis of contemporary practices in social work.
