The course is open to students in all departments. No prior theoretical or specialist technical knowledge is required.

Contents

This special course provides students at Seinajoki University of Applied Science and Chiba University with the opportunity to cooperate with each other to propose what the social service system should be like in the future. The course is given as a 'Cooperative Learning Abroad' Program and is given in alternate years at each university. The first workshop was held in Seinajoki University of Applied Science last year.

In the academic year 2012, this course is offered at Chiba University and 10 students at Seinajoki University of Applied Science will visit Chiba University to work with Chiba university students for the workshop. This year they will learn about Plant-Factory, develop new ideas and propose what it should be like in the future.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Pre-study-abroad Sessions ( at both universities)
1) Orientations given several times between April and September
2) Preparation for individual study and guidance

Workshop in Japan (14 days)
Week 1 - Fact finding
3) Fact-finding work
4) Summary of problems found in the fact-finding
Week 2 - Idea Generation
5) Group presentation to propose solutions to the problems
6) Idea generation to prepare final proposals
7) Final proposals through a presentation

Assessment Methods

Final presentation and report. Students must attend all the sessions before the workshop as well as the workshop itself.

Further Information

The lengths of the course is for 2 weeks from September 18th until September 28th in 2012.
During their stay, students will take part in cultural activities as well.
Japanese government grant-in-aid ( 80,000 Japanese yen) will be provided for all the participants.
