Learning Outcomes

Students know what rights and responsibilities Bachelors of Social Services have in drug care. They study special issue in drug care of various client groups. As members of multiprofessional teams, students know how to counsel clients and families on drug care.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5:
Students are able to clarify their professional responsibility as Bachelors of Social Work in insuring and proceeding patient security in drug care. Students are able to dose correctly drug types given in natural way to clients of different age. They are able to observe client's blood sugar, to give correct insulin-injection and to know their responsibility in this process. students are able to make drug calculations correctly.
Grade 3-4:
Students are able to give grounds and clarify their professional responsibility as Bachelors of Social Work in insuring and proceeding patient security in drug care. Students are able to dose correctly drug types given in natural way to clients of different age. They are able to observe client's blood sugar, to give correct insulin-injection and to know their responsibility in this process. students are able to make drug calculations correctly.
Fail:
Students don't have capacities to reach satisfactory level and they can't make drug calculations correctly. Absence from contact lessons.

Assessment Methods

In the exam, 50% of the theoretical part and all drug calculations must be correct. To pass this course, students must pass the exam and be present every time.

Further Information

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health guidelines on Safe Pharmacothepapy 2005:32,
social care personnel who have been trained in pharmacotherapy, have the right to administer medicines by natural route and to place medicines into a dispenser in the client's home. After adequate additional training, evidence of competence and written authorisation, they also have the right to inject medicine under the skin. The written permission is obtained from a medical doctor, who defines the competence and need for additional training.
