Learning Outcomes

The student knows how to plan and write articles for web pages and printed media. The student also understands the planning process of a magazine and a newspaper and knows how to work as a part of the editorial team.

Contents

The studies are mainly conducted in workshops. The students are instructed to produce articles for the web pages of SeAMK and for local or international web media or printed media (for example in their home country).

During the course the students apply the theory of writing in practice: defining the focus of the article according to the media and target group, methods of writing and polishing the article. The Finnish students can write their articles in Finnish or in English, depending on the media, and the international students write their articles in English.

The students write a new article or a new version of an article every week. They also comment the articles of the members of the group.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures, participating the meetings weekly, writing the articles, commenting the articles of others, offering an article to media, visiting a local media house.

Assessment Methods

Learning diary, articles and presence in the workshops. One of the articles can be based on the own experiences of the writer, at least one article must include interviewing someone.

The course is suitable for students from all fields of education with an interest in writing articles and working in a group to improve their writing skills.
