Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, student will
- understand the concepts and units used in explaining oscillatory motion and in the phenomena related to wave motion.
- be able to analyse oscillatory and wave motion using mathematical models.
- be competent in calculating predictions for wave motion using mathematical models.
- be competent in distinguishing between different forms of mechanical and electromagnetic wave motion and in describing them using equations of magnitude.
- be able to analyse the behaviour of different wave motions in different media.
- be capable of interpreting selected natural phenomena in the modern physics frame of reference.
- be able to recognise the limitations of classical physics and be aware of the implications of the modern physics on the world view
- be able to evaluate their skills in physics and apply their expertise in the subsequent advanced studies.

Assessment Criteria

Satisfactory (1 ... 2): The student knows and understands to a satisfactory extent the basic concepts and methods of wave physics, and is able to apply them to usual problems. The student is aware of the limitations of classical physics, and identifies the status of the modern physics in the world view.

Good (3 ... 4): The student is familiar with the concepts and methods of both wave and modern physics, and is able to apply them to different types of problems. The student is able to combine the accumulated knowledge and skills with previous experiences in the subject.

Excellent (5): The student is familiar with the concepts and methods of wave and modern physics, and is able to apply them to a variety of different problems. The student has demonstrated creativity and innovation, and is able to find new meanings when applying what they have learned.
