Learning Outcomes

Students choose courses worth at least 40 credits from the elective courses available, which will provide them with extensive knowledge of the trends in animal husbandry and competence for duties on this field. Selecting individual specialisation courses related to any area of production is also possible.

Prerequisites / Recommended Optional Courses

Students are required to complete the general studies in Livestock Production (OK KA01BKOTU) and Farming practice (KA01EMHARJ)before taking any of these courses.
Grass cultivation(KA01CKATE05) is required before or simultaneously with specializing in cattle production
Organic farming (KA01CKATE12) is required before taking organic animal husbandry.

Contents

Students can specialise in Animal production by choosing minimum 40 cr from the following courses: Specialising in pig production, Specialization in cattle production, Specialising in poultry production, Cross margin analysis, Specialising in horse management, Automation in animal husbandry, Organis animal husbandry and Other special topics of animal production.
Students can specialise in Farm animal health care (44 cr) by taking the following courses: Specialising in pig production, Specialization in cattle production, Specialising in poultry production, Maintaining animal health, Applied microbiology, Animal diseases, Use of medicines in veterinary and Planning and management of health care.

Further Information

In addition to optional studies students may place emphasis on animal husbandry and farm animal welfare by choosing related training place (Specialisation practice, 20 cr) and final thesis (15 cr) topic. To ensure the smooth progression of the thesis process, students are urged to decide, together with the thesis supervisor, on a topic for their thesis during their third year of studies at the latest.
