Learning Outcomes

The course helps students to develop their ideological perspectives in designing. Focus is placed on selection of materials, shapes, structures, production techniques, and various ways to use objects.
Upon completion of the course, students will
- be competent in finding information about various materials.
- be competent in creative problem solving and in utilising various means to solve problems.
- know how to write a learning journal.
- be capable of applying methods of modelling and visualisation and of making a digital portfolio.
- be adept in producing an actual product under supervision and in utilising various production techniques.
- be competent in presenting a completed product and the product development documentation associated with the process of making the product, as well as in assessing their own expertise.

Contents

- Manual sketching, creative problem solving measures, graphics, 3D modelling and visualisation, miniature models, pattern models, detail models,
- Several experiments with materials, materials charts from the experiments
- Designing a prototype and production based on the acquired knowledge
- Documentation, portfolio, presentation of completed work

Assessment Criteria

Grading is based on a scale of 1 to 5. The students’ product(s) and designing documents are graded based on the assessment criteria stated in the project objectives. Assessment of the process requires attendance, participation as well as midterm and final critique.
