Learning Outcomes

LEARNING COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in evaluating their learning needs regarding nursing skills and knowledge and plan the content of their practical training. They will reflect on the phases of their professional development.

COMPETENCE IN CUSTOMERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE

Students will be competent in creating a purposeful and professional interaction relationship with clients/patients and their family members.

HEALTH PROMOTION COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in recognising patients' positive resources and in utilising them in nursing practice. Students will also be competent in supporting patients' independence and active participation in treatment.

CLINICAL COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in comprehensively monitoring and taking care of patients and their family members. They will also be competent in documenting and reporting on the care administered. They will be able to safely implement common nursing procedurers. They will be able to work according to the principles of nursing and evidence-based nursing. They will understand the principles of rehabilitative work. Students will learn various types of drugs, know how to calculate dosages, and administer medicines safely.

DECISION-MAKING COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in drawing up a client-centred nursing plan according to the principles of structured documentation.

WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE

Students will be able to describe the duties and responsibilities of nurses in primary health care and be competent in working as members of multi-professional teams.

ETHICAL COMPETENCE

Students will treat their clients/patients, colleagues, peers and lecturers with justness and equality and behave in a professional and respectful manner.

INNOVATION COMPETENCE

Students will be competent in utilising evidence-based knowledge in nursing practice. They will question existing nursing practices and learn to recognise areas in need of development.

Contents

This practical training is carried out in a health centre ward or similar unit (8 cr).
The training period includes the hours spent on introductory lectures, reflection sessions and demonstration of competence.

Recommended or Required Reading

The same literature and material as in the whole study module.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Assignments, learning contract. Certificate on student's drug care competence

Assessment Criteria

The same criteria as for the theory courses Basics of Nursing and Nursing interventions

Assessment Methods

Students will be graded on a pass/fail basis. To successfully complete the practical training, students must achieve the competence requirements and learning outcomes defined for the studies, and evaluate their own learning in writing in the learning contract.

Passed learning contract, signed list of work shifts, a certificate that indicates that the student possesses the required skills in drug care, and a written report on one patient's nursing plan, compiled according to the guidelines on structured documentation.
