Learning Outcomes

Students will become familiar with the activities within the university of applied sciences, the learning environment and community, as well as with the degree programmes and learning methods. They will become familiar with the curriculum and assessment criteria. Upon the completion of the course, students will be able to use library services at Seinäjoki UAS, and know the core information sources. They will have command of the basics of information retrieval, IT, word processing, and know how to use programmes needed during the studies. Students will understand pedagogical approaches used at the university of applied sciences, and will work in student groups according to common rules.

Contents

Students will become familiar with a study environment and
support services at the UAS: study counselling, health care, financial aid, library services, SAMO Student Union etc. They will learn the basics of computer programmes, online retrieval and retrieval of other sources. They will learn library and information services at SUAS and the basics of evaluation and use of information gained from various data bases. Students will be informed of study practise in the branch of culture, and international study opportunities.

Assessment Criteria

Grading of the other parts of the course will be announced during the course.
The lessons concerning information retrieval: Students can analyze their needs for information from different points of views. They can name concepts and analyze them. The students are able to introduce core library and information services and name different sources concerning their own field of expertise. They can use data bases, Internet and other field-related sources of information. The students can evaluate the results. They also can interpret data bases and web sites, and are able to apply the instructions for Written Work at SUAS.
