Learning Outcomes

Students will know how to work in a small nursing home, and how to support residents' functional capacity and well-being. Students will learn to know everyday life in a nursing home and learn to assist elderly people in activities of daily life. They will collect and analyse information about the residents' and the working community's well-being and about the factors related to it. Students will form an understanding of the competence and expertise needed in the provision of elderly-care services, and they will learn about the competence requirements for Bachelors of Social Services and Health Care. They will start to construct a conception of internal entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial attitude, required in elderly care.

Contents

Students will contribute to supporting the well-being and functional capacity of elderly people in a small nursing home. They will reflect on their observations; on the relationship between the individual and environment and between the individual and the community; on people's experiences of interaction relationships, on the competence required in the work and on an entrepreneurial approach to work. They will conduct interviews and evaluate their learning in relation to the expected learning outcomes and in light of the preceding theoretical studies.

Assessment Criteria

Level 1
Under supervision, students are able to work as members of a nursing home community and contribute to supporting elderly people's functional capacity. Students are familiar with everyday life in a small nursing home and, under supervision, they are able to assist the residents with activities of daily living. Students know how to collect information about the residents. Their understanding of elderly care and of their future profession is still limited.

Level 2
Students are active members of a small nursing home community and they contribute to supporting the elderly people's functional capacity. Students understand what everyday life in the nursing home and the residents' activities of daily living involve and they are able to assist the residents wtih basic activities. Students know how to collect information about the residents and how to analyse knowledge pertaining to the wellbeing of the residents and of the work community. Students construct themselves a foundation of skills and knowledge involving elderly care competence and expertise and competence requirements for Bachelors of Social Services and Health Care. Students undertand that internal entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial approach to work are part of their profession.

Level 3
Students are active members of a small nursing home community and they contribute to supporting the elderly people's functional capacity. Students analyse everyday life in the nursing home and actively contribute to daily activities with the elderly. Students are able to work independently and to assist the residents with basic activities. Students know how to collect and extensively analyse knowledge about the residents and they suggest developments to support the wellbeing of the residents and of the work community. Students construct themselves a foundation of skills and knowledge involving elderly care competence and expertise and competence requirements for Bachelors of Social Services and Health Care. Students undertand that internal entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial approach are part of their future profession and they already work with an entrepreneurial attitude.
