Learning Outcomes

Part 1.Increase in self-awareness, planning of studies, follow-up and support. Students will have command of various learning techniques and tools needed in time management. They will acquire readiness for professional growth.

Part 2. Information retrieval Students be competent in seeking, evaluating and using the information they find.

Part 3. Occupational Health and Safety: Students are familiar with safety factors in the agricultural sector, labor organizations and to adopt a positive attitude towards the development of occupational safety.

Part 4. Career Planning (3rd year) students will consider their own skills, goals for future careers. Students become familiar with various job opportunities.

Contents

Part 1: Studying at universities of applied sciences, orientation into Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and studies in agriculture, reinforcing self-awareness and the defining of professional goals, career planning, compiling a personal study plan, preparation for the working world and coping at work.

Part 2: Library and information services at Seinäjoki UAS, information retrieval, databases and the Internet, main producers of information in the agriculture field, evaluation and use of information

Part 3. Occupational health and safety. Occupational safety and health management and labor organization activity in the workplace and rural businesses. Safety at risk mapping and safe workplace practices.

Part 4. Career planning. Workplace skills, studying the post-integration in employment planning, job seeking, self-assessment skills

Literature/study material: Material compiled by the university of applied sciences and the lecturer.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Written assignments, group discussions, presentations, lectures. Contact teaching and supervision: 30 %, assignments: 10 %, independent study: 60 %.

Assessment Criteria

Grading will be announced during the course.

Assessment Methods

Active participation in contact teaching and supervision sessions, completion of written assignments, exam. All parts must be completed successfully to receive a grade for the course.
