Learning Outcomes

Students are able to choose the most suitable method for their research or development task and apply it to their thesis process, justify the selections they have made and assess their implemenation.

On the basis of their approach students choose a course either on quantitative or qualitative research or on the implementation of a development task.

Contents

Quantititative research: brushing up the use of the SPSS software, choice of statistical methods suitable for the current data.

Qualitative research: qualitatitive research methods, acquisition and analysis of qualitative data, reporting the results, assessing the reliability of the research.

Implementation of a development project: purpose and results of the project, different ways of implementation, reporting and and assessing the project

Assessment Criteria

Pass
The student actively takes part in the lectures/on-line studies and exercises. The student completes all the assignments required at least at a satisfactory level. The student understands the differences between different types of research and a development project. The student can plan a research using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods or can plan a development project. The student shows through exercises that s/he can apply some typical data collection methods and analyze and report the results acquired in a proper way.

Fail
The student only seldom takes part in the lectures/on-line studies. The student does not complete all the assignments required. The student understands the differences between different types of research, but is not able to plan a development project or research using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods. The student cannot show though the exercises that s/he could properly apply typical data collection methods and analyze and report the results in a satisfactory level.

Assessment Methods

Pass/fail; depending on the implementation assignment or exam.
