General admission requirements

Prospective students who wish to apply to degree programmes (bachelor- and master-level) in a university of applied sciences or a university must apply during the application period, which is the same nationwide. Application can be done with an online joint application at www.opintopolku.fi twice a year starting autumn 2014. Applicants may apply for as many as six options. The order of the options should be chosen carefully. If you are not admitted to the option of your first preference, it will be checked whether your points are enough for your second preference etc. If you are accepted to a higher option, you cannot be accepted to your lower options in any circumstance.

The general entry requirements for admission to universities of applied sciences:

  • Finnish matriculation examination and/or Finnish upper secondary school leaving certificate
  • International Baccalaureate-, Reifeprüfung or European Baccalaureate –examination
  • Finnish vocational qualification of three years or more in duration
  • Finnish vocational qualification in adult education
  • Finnish further vocational qualification or Finnish specialist vocational qualification
  • Non-Finnish degree or qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country

Detailed entry requirements are defined in the Act on Universities of Applied Sciences (351/2003, § 20). Universities of applied sciences observe independently set principles for entrance examinations and selecting students. However, the institutions are committed to extensive collaboration and observing the general selection criteria in different fields of study.

Application to master's degree programme conducted in English is not part of the joint application system.

Accepting a study place

Once a prospective student has received a letter of acceptance to study at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, he/she must confirm to accept that place by the beginning of the academic year. If the student does not enrol within the allotted time, he/she is considered to have given up the right to study in the institution. Written notification of accepting the study place is binding and cannot be cancelled or changed.
