The degree programme leads to a higher education degree which is a second cycle Master-level degree in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). According to the eight-level classification of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) the degree represents level 7.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning (RPL)

The Head of Degree Programme and the teacher of the course in question are responsible for RPL. According to the degree regulation, prior learning of a subject expires in ten years. Assessment methods are an exam, practical assignment or equivalent.

Pedagogical approach

During the studies constructivism is a main approach. Teacher is coaching students to ask for theoretical knowledge and use their working life experience to develop their competence. As a tools essays, practical assignments and various plans for real working life are used.

Profile of the programme

The studies are intended for ones who have Bachelor of Natural Resources degree in agriculture or forestry and needs advanced knowledge and skills to manage rural enterprises especially in forest energy sector or otherwise want to improve their competence.

During the programme students will get basic understanding of production and utilization of forest energy. Students will be familiar with the innovation process especially in forest energy sector as well as with the basics of bioenergy technology, carbon balance calculation and forest energy sources.The student will learn to manage forest energy production process and heat plant entrepreneurship. Finally, the student plan and carry out the thesis proses in the area of forest energy production.

Occupational profiles

The graduates from the degree programme are qualified to expert level to work in rural enterprises and at colleges as well as in advising sector especially in forrest energy sector

Internationalization

Course literature has partly international origin and is written in English. Also, during the studying, students are encouraged to take courses at partner universities gathered during eWood project.

Structure of the studies

In the 60 ECTS Credit programme there is 10 cr compulsory studies (“Innovation activity at regional level” and “Studying and research methods”) which are mainly taught during the first half year. In the spring 2015 starts alternative studies, all together 20 cr, where the student needs to take three 5 cr courses (15 cr). Last two courses are taught in autumn 2015.

Mode of study

Mode of study Part-time studies are expected to last ca. two years. Teaching takes place 2-3 days at a time on every three or four week (Wed. – Fri. or Thur. - Sat.).
