Learning Outcomes

Students will:
learn to name respiratory and cardiovascular disorders and diseases of adult clients; learn to measure and assess respiratory and cardiac patients' mobility and functional capacity by physiotherapy methods; learn to interpret the results and based on the results, to plan physiotherapy for respiratory and cardiac patients; learn to name how internal diseases affect functional capacity and, based on physiotherapy examination, to define medical patients' functional capacity and need for physiotherapy; apply the principles of therapeutic exercise and health promotion in physiotherapy for various groups of clients/patients; know how to supervise physical exercises for special needs groups; learn to identify physical and mental change and to interpret body-mind connections; learn to apply psychophysical physiotherapy methdods in client work; learn a broad definition of work ability and of activities that promote ability to work; become aware of the role of occupational physiotherapy as part of the occupational health services and learn relevant legislation; identify ergonomic factors and/or factors pertaining to work stress; in their workplace surveys, report on essential factors pertaining to work ergonomics and physical work stress and suggest improvements

Respiratory and cardiovascular disorders and physiotherapy; internal diseases and physiotherapy; pre and post-operative physiotherapy for surgical patients; psychiatry and psychophysical physiotherapy; occupational physiotherapy; planning and implementation of physical exercise in the promotion of work ability; applied physical exercise for special needs groups

Assessment Criteria

Excellent:

Students know how to extensively assess and counsel clients/patients with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases. Students use and justify their use of physiotherapy methods in pre and postoperative counselling of clients/patients. Students are familiar with occupational health legislation. They know how to assess, report and reflect on factors pertaining to work ergonomics and work stress. Students know psychophysical physiotherapy methods and are able to apply them in client/patients situations. Students know how to supervise applied exercise for special needs groups. They justify their action with evidence-based theoretical knowledge.

Good:

Students are partly familiar with occupational health legislation. They know to a limited degree how to assess and report on factors pertaining to work ergonomics and work stress. Students know some psychophysical physiotherapy methods and are able to apply them in client/patients situations. Students know how to supervise some applied exercise for special needs groups. They justify their action with limited theoretical knowledge.
