Learning Outcomes

COMPETENCE IN HEALTH PROMOTION, COUNSELLING AND MENTORING COMPETENCE

Students will learn to counsel and support children of all ages and their families in healthy growth, development and self-care. Students will know how to promote children's and young people's mental health and how to support their resources in multi-professional nursing.

CLINICAL COMPETENCE

Students will learn to evaluate stages of development in children and youth of all ages and to identify factors that may threaten their health. They will learn to support and nurse healthy, ill and disabled children of all ages and their family members. Students will utilise care guidelines and multi-disciplinary research information as a basis for their work. They will be familiar with the more common children's and young people's diseases, developmental disorders, examinations and treatments.

Under supervision, students will be able to recognize factors that threaten the mental health or development of children and young people, and help by means of nursing interventions, when required. Students will know how to support the welfare and coping of children, youth, and their families. Students will become aware that the viewpoint of mental health is included in the total care process of children and young people, and they will learn to take appropriate action.

COMPETENCE IN CUSTOMERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE AND DECISION-MAKING COMPETENCE

Under supervision, students will be able to recognise nursing needs of children and youth and plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing. Students will interact with children and youth in different life situations. Students will understand the principles of client and resource-oriented relationship in multi-professional nursing of children, youth and their families.

WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE

Students will become familiar with the social welfare and health care service system as regards children, youth and their families. They will be competent in helping clients use the services appropriately. Students will learn to communicate and interact appropriately in the working community. As members of the working community, they will learn to contribute to the welfare of the community.

INTERNATIONALIZATION COMPETENCE

Students are competent in working in multicultural collaboration and able to communicate in a foreing language, if needed.

ETHICAL COMPETENCE

Students will treat children, youth and their families with respect and confidentiality

LEARNING COMPETENCE

Students will earn to search, process and evaluate knowledge critically and reflectively. Students will learn to assume responsibility for the whole student group's learning and collaborative sharing of knowledge.

Children, youth and their families as clients in the social welfare and health care service system and the national and international development of the service provision system. Teaching and counselling in the health promotion of children, young people and their family members, as well as in supporting growth into parenthood, motherhood and fatherhood. Comprehensive growth and development of children of all ages; supporting growth and development. Idenfification of family change and crisis and early intervention. Safe nursing environments and prevention of accidents. Acute and long-term illness in children and youth. Counselling and supporting children and yong people in family nursing. Common examinations and nursing interventions in child and youth nursing.
Growth and development as the startpoint in promoting children's and young people's mental health and in nursing. Recognition of risk factors. - know how to compare contents of individual- and family-centred nursing using case studies
- can explain nursing intervantions from the perspective of promoting the child's or young person's health, mental health and safety
- are able to plan, implement and evaluate the counselling of children, adolescents and their families comprehensively and professionally
- know how to act in nursing situations, which demand prompt intervention and/or support
