Learning Outcomes

HEALTH PROMOTION COMPETENCE

Students will learn central concepts associated with public health science, and learn to describe the factors that influence public health positively and negatively. Students will learn to read and apply research on public health. They will know how to describe research methods used in public health science. They will also learn to analyse smoking as a health risk.

- have command over central concepts in epidemiology and undertand research methods used in public health science
- are able to read epidemiological research and utilise the knowledge for prevention of prevalent diseases and health problems nationally and to some extent internationally
- know how to use motivating discussion to help clients quit smoking

- are to some extent familiar with central concepts of epidemiology and basic principles of research methods
- know prevalent diseases in Finland and the most common diseases worldwide
- are able to counsel clients on how to quit smoking

- know central concepts in epidemiology and some research methods
- understand the background of prevalent diseases in Finland and to some extent worldwide
- are able to counsel clients on how to quit smoking
