Learning Outcomes

WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE

Students can describe the basic principles and operational models associated with the Finnish political and administrational service system. They will become familiar with the hierarchy of the services and the public, private and third-sector areas of activity. They will also be introduced to the social security system. Students will be competent in identifying the impact of international strategies and policies on social welfare and health care services.

Students will learn to understand the social background of various phenomena. They will be able to describe social problems, health sociology and social change. The students' professional responsibility will develop as they study basic rights and central institutions in Finland. They can promote their interaction skills by focusing on the history of the clients' life course. Students will promote their social participation and study the social security system as a part of their professional nursing competence.


COMPETENCE IN CUSTOMERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE AND ETHICAL COMPETENCE

Students will become familiar with the rights, responsibilities and data security of patients from the point of view of individuals and of organizations that provide social welfare and health care services. They will be competent in utilizing this information when working with patients and, together with the patients, evaluate their health and resources when planning appropriate services for them. Students will also be competent in developing and generating information concerning client-centred nursing and ethics.

Health care and social welfare system in Finland and the laws regulating it. EU-based and international legislation regulating health care and social work. The concept of client relationship and significance of client information in client-centred work.

Social problems, the sociology of health care, social change, basic rights, courts of law, public administration, social change in Finland from the beginning of the 20th century until today, welfare society, and the Finnish social security system

Recommended or Required Reading

Articles from science journals related to topics. Health 2015 programme. Political policies related to the topics discussed. Legislation regulating health care and social welfare (applicable parts). Other current material.
