Learning Outcomes
Collection Design is divided into three (3) elective tracks: Designing and Making Weaved Textiles, Designing and Making Printed Textiles and Designing and Making Clothing. Students choose one of the tracks in which they specialise.
Designing and Making Weaved Textiles
Module 1: Rugs (5 cr)
• Students will be competent in designing a collection of rugs.
• Students will know how to make prototypes on a weaving loom and learn about the various materials for making rugs and their properties.
Module 2: Jacquard Patterns (5 cr)
• Students will be competent in designing patterns using the Jacquard technique and know how to utilise imaging processing software in their designing work.
• Students will be aware of the limitations certain products have and the opportunities they yield in their own designing work.
Module 3: Textiles in Public Places (5 cr)
• Students will be competent in considering the demands set by public spaces, the users of those spaces and official regulations when designing textiles for public places.
• Students will understand the function of architecture, style and textile in their own designing work.
Designing and Making Printed Textiles
Module 1: Designing Prints I (5 cr)
• Students will be competent in designing a coherent pattern collection to be used for products related to interior decorating (wallpaper, decorative fabrics, tiles, etc.).
• Students will know how to arrange various patterns and create different colour schemes for patterns.
• Students will be competent in applying various reporting systems in their designing work.
• Students will know how to create patterns by drawing and painting by hand utilising techniques appropriate for a given theme.
Module 2: Designing Prints II (5 cr)
• Students will know how to design patterns and prints for paper products (e.g. gift wrapping, disposable products, etc.)
• Students will be competent in using image processing and drawing software for designing prints and patterns.
Module 3: Designing Prints III (5 cr)
• Students will know how to design patterns and prints for clothing and accessories with awareness to their distinctive features.
• Students will be competent in designing prints and patterns for advertising and auxiliary products with consideration to customers’ needs.

Designing and Making Clothing
Module 1: Designing Clothing I (5 cr)
• Students will know how to design clothing and/or accessory collections for a target group and for a certain use.
• Students will be competent in conjuring diverse ideas quickly.
• Students will know how to present designs for clothing by drawing by hand.
Module 2: Designing Clothing II (5 cr)
• Students will know how to design clothing and/or accessory collections for a target group and for a certain use with emphasis on ecology and aesthetics.
• Students will be competent in utilising image processing software in their designing work.
Module 3: Designing Clothing III (5 cr)
• Students will be competent in designing clothing and accessory collections for a chosen target group and in productising their own collection.
• Students will know how to present their collection visually or make prototypes of it, whichever they choose.

Designing and Making Weaved Textiles
Module 1
• Principles of weaved textiles, working with colours for designs
• Making weaves
• Working with different materials
• Contracts and forms associated with freelancing
Module 2
• Limitations in pattern designing associated with products and techniques
• Creating one’s own collection, using image processing software as a tool for pattern design
• Experimenting with materials and weaves using the TC-1 weaving machine
Module 3
• Demands on textiles for public places set by architecture and standards
• Designing one’s own interior decorating element for a public place.
Designing and Making Printed Textiles
Module 1
• Continuous patterned surfaces (reports), principles of designing printed products, using colour in patterns
• Manual sketching techniques
• Colour distinction
• Creating one’s own collection
• Contracts and forms associated with freelancing
Module 2
• Limitations in pattern designing associated with products
• Creating one’s own collection
• Using image processing and drawing software as a tool for pattern design
Module 3
• Purpose of advertising products (for an entrepreneur/event) and consideration of the purpose in one’s own designing work
• Distinctive features of print design for accessories
• Various printing methods and materials
Designing and Making Clothing
Module 1
• Principles of designing clothing and collections, industrial clothing design and production process, impact of the target group, use and trends on designing
• Structure of clothing and materials as well as working with prototypes
• Contracts associated with freelancing as well as scheduling a designing project.
Module 2
• Ecological consumers and materials, sustainable development in the production of clothing.
• Criteria for sustainable development in the work of a designer
• Using image processing and drawing software as a tool for designing clothing
Module 3
• Productising one’s own clothing collection for a market, pricing, producing marketing material, subcontracting
