Learning Outcomes
Occupational and environmental safety in construction
Students are aware of the environmental impact of human action in construction industry and understand its complex causes and effects. Students know how to seek and use various methods to avoid these adverse effects, or to alleviate any damage caused by construction. They know and are prepared for occupational safety risks when working in a contaminated environment.
Competence in the construction process
Students are introduced to environmental management programmes and, in case a construction company follows such a programme students know how to produce appropriate reports for internal use and for authorities.
Competence in repair construction
Students know how to recycle or in some other way dispose of the waste produced during construction or pulling down old buildings.
Competence in infra construction
Students are familiar with the sewage legislation concerning non-urban regions and know how to select a suitable sewage system. They have knowledge of various remediation techniques for contaminated soil; if required for the construction permit, they know how to hire subcontractors to organise site surveys and remediation. Students also know how to read zoning plans.

Contents
Climate; air quality; inland surface waterways and groundwater; soil; impact of human action on the environment; prevention of adverse environmental effects; remediation of contaminated soil; Waste Act; sorting, processing, recycling and disposal of waste; application of Directives pertaining to chemicals; environmental management systems; environmental permits and administration.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
Independent study in the Moodle learning environment. Group work on given topics and presentations of the completed work together with the members of the group.
