Learning Outcomes

Students will learn to name factors that support young people's growth, development and social engagement. Students will know how to analyse individual, community and society-level mechanisms (risks of social exclusion) that jeopardise young people's ability to function and engage themselves in society. Students will also become aware of how their values and attitudes are reflected in professional practice and of the meanings these values and attitudes carry in work with youth.

Mode of Delivery / Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Workshop: Lectures, reading circles, field trips, visiting lecturers, work in small groups, analysis of documentaries. Preliminary assignment.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 1-2:
Students are able to name factors that affect young people's functional capacity, social engagement and risks of exclusion. Under supervision, they reflect on their values, attitudes and actions.
Grade 3-4:
Students are able to discuss thematics related to young people's social engagement and exclusion at various levels (individual, community, society). Students know how to analyse causes and meanings attached to these phenomena. Students reflect on their own values, attitudes and actions.
Grade 5:
Students are able to extensively analyse factors that affect young people's functional capacity, social engagement and risks of exclusion. They are able to analyse meanings attached to the experience of social engagement or exlusion at the levels of individuals, communities and society. They know how to extensively reflect on their own conceptions of youth and young people's social exclusion. Students explore and evaluate their own values, attitudes and actions with reference to professional ethics.

Assessment Methods

Preliminary assignment 25%, group output 20%, exam 30%.
