Learning Outcomes

Students will:

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5: Students know how to develop their Finnish language and communication skills as part of their professional competence. They communicate appropriately and creatively using their personal style. Students seek information independently and competently in order to produce new knowledge or perspectives. Students use language and visual expression creatively and in harmony with common practices and recommendations. Students support other parties in communication and know how to create an encouraging and trusting atmosphere for communication. They are able to find different ways of communicating and alternative solutions for communicative situations, justify their choices and try out new action models. Their communication is creative and dialogical.

Grade 3: Students know how to analyse their communication, evaluate their communication skills and formulate development targets. They make use of feedback given on their strong points. Students apply text models and instructions provided for their professional field to meet the needs of given situations. Students listen to, observe and intepret messages analytically and flexibly change their action on the basis of what they hear and notice. Students' communication is dialogical; they are able to construct interaction between parties e.g. ensuring that other speakers have their turns. Students know how to seek field-specific information and apply it critically and extensively. Students prepare a written, spoken,visual or multimodal presentation for a target audience using various means of expression.

Grade 1: Students are able to name and evaluate some features of their communication and skills on the basis of instructions and feedback provided. They know how to receive feedback and change their communication based on the feedback. Students are able to write texts for the work community with help of instructions and templates. Students are able to name common practices in work-related oral communication situations and participate respectively. Students are aware of features of good conversation. They are able to present and justify their viewpoints as well as give and receive feedback. Students observe instructions and common practices. They know how to write texts that take into account the other party in interaction. Students know the difference between plagiarism, citing and summarising.
