Learning Outcomes

Students will know with the principles and methods of documentation and their application in documentation of structures, surfaces and buildings. Students will know how to use various research methods related to materials in the field of conservation and be able to asses results of various studies.
Students will have command of the principles and methods associated with the documentation of surface layers. They will be competent in carrying out research work and evaluating results of it.

No previous studies are required.

Contents

Part1:
- Fundamentals and methods of documentation in conservation work
- Layout and presentation of written documentation report including measurements, drawings, photographs and research findings
- Archives: archive research reports, reports pertaining to the history of buildings, and using documention material and archiving
Part 2:
Methods and equipment for studying and dating surface materials, structures and conditions
Preparation of samples and microscopic examinations
Use of research equipment and practical applications
Ultraviolet and infrared depiction as research tools
Documenting surface layers
Analysing colour layers and taking colour samples
Analysing wallpaper samples and archiving
Research photography and documentation
Making surface layer fragments and documenting them
Examining damage to surface layers and making reports about them
