Students will possess the skills needed to act in customer-service situations communicatively and with regard for the patron's needs. They will be competent in distinguishing between theories of learning and in explaining the concept of media education from the viewpoint of the library. They will utilise various methods of teaching and educating others about the media. Students will also be competent in planning and organising instruction associated with library work for individuals and groups. Students will understand the significance of functional network communication to libraries and information services organisations. They will be competent in updating, designing and implementing a functional, standardisized network service.

Total work load of the course 286 h of which the parts of the course: Customer Service 130 h, Library Pedagogics and Media Education 5 cr and Web Production 3 cr.

Distinctive features of public services, developing the quality of service, service situations and managing them and personal demeanour in customer-service situations.
Introduciton to learning theories and teaching methods, designing, initiating and evaluating opportunities for patrons to receive guidance and instruction. Information literacy.
Sub-areas of media education and carrying out media education from the viewpoint of a library professional.
Significance of network communication to libraries and other information services organisations. Techniques for creating network services, publishing a network service on the www-server.
