Learning Outcomes
Students will be competent in designing steel structures in ultimate and serviceability limit states according to the eurocodes. Students will be competent in designing joints for steel structures according to eurocodes. They will make use of computer programmes in the designing process.

Statics, Strength of Materials, Basics of FEM, Framework Systems and Basics of Structural Design.

• Steel as building material
• Strength and elastic properties of structural steel
• Steel grades
• Cross-section classes
• Resistance of cross-section under tension, compression, bending, shearing and torsion
• Resistance of cross-section under combination of internal forces
• Designing for deflection
• Resistance in case of stability phenomena as buckling and lateral torsional buckling
• Basics of designing bolted connections
• Basics of designing welded connections
• Using computer programmes in the designing of steel structures
