Learning Outcomes

Students learn to think conceptually and to reflect on relationships between concepts which represent phenomena. During this course, students learn to analyse important concepts in nursing and social work and their contents from different frameworks. They become aware of the contents and meanings that professionals in the health and social field commit themselves to. Students learn what seminar work involves.

Contents

Introductory lecture on the concept analysis. The important concepts to be discussed in the seminar work: conceptions of the human being, welfare, lifestyle, way of life, life management, health and illness, health promotion and self-care, social problems and marginalisation, social support, environment, society and communities, nursing, social work and work in the social field, trust and social capital.

Recommended or Required Reading

Students select the material for their concept analysis. The lecturer will provide a literature list to support the lectures.

Assessment Criteria

Grade 5:
Students have extensive, profound knowledge of the contents defined in the learning outcomes. They critically analyse concepts in nursing and social work. They are aware of the contents and meanings that professionals in the health and social field commit themselves to. Students know how to use source material in the exam and assignments. They observe the instructions given for written work.
Grade 3:
Students have good knowledge of the contents defined in the learning outcomes. They can analyse concepts in nursing and social work at good level. They are aware of the contents and meanings that professionals in the health and social field commit themselves to. Students know how to use source material in the exam and assignments. They observe the instructions given for written work.
Grade 1:
Students have basic knowledge of the contents defined in the learning outcomes. They have adequate knowledge of the concepts in nursing and social work. Students use some source material in the exam and assignments. They partly observe the instructions given for written work.
