Learning Outcomes
The students will learn to observe and assess the welfare, functional capacity, health, life management and living conditions of elderly people. They will learn to observe clients in their own environments, explore individual experiences of old age and analyse the related factors. Students will increase their skills of interviewing and interacting with elderly people and acquire experience in counselling elderly people, in health promotion and in the assessment of elderly people's needs for services. Later in their work, students will be able to plan anticipatory home visits to promote the clients' welfare, and they will know how to provide individual service solutions.

Contents
- Interviews with over 80-year-old elderly people living at home
- Observation, assessment and testing of the functional capacity of elderly people (balance, mood, and cognition)
- Assessment of the living conditions and environments of elderly people and of their impact on functional capacity
- Familiarization with elderly people's personal experiences of old age
- Supporting the wellbeing of elderly people (counselling on exercise, nutrition, brain health and on the services available)
- Report on the visits and student's self-evaluation with reference to the expected learning outcomes and theoretical studies (numerical assessment 1-5)
(2 cr of the contents is for research and development)

- Introductory lectures
- Visits with elderly people based on relaxing-visiting and outreach ideologies
- Interviews to assess the welfare, health and living conditions of elderly people (75-80 yrs. of age)
- Testing functional capacity
- Counselling on exercise and nutrition
- Assignment: reflection on one's learning experiences
