Learning Outcomes
After having completed the course students have basic knowledge of the German speaking countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Students are able to report orally and/or in writing about special features of these countries.
The students have written about a culture topic of their choise. They have improved their reading comprehension and writing skills and have expanded their German vocabulary.
They will be competent in obtaining information on the German speaking countries on the Internet.

Independent work 81 h (incl. getting to know the course environment, reading instructions and self assessement)

German 1-3 or more extensive German studies.

General knowledge of the countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Famous German speaking people and their professions
One of the following culture topics: visual arts, cinema, music or literature
Economic life
Political systems in Germany, Austria and the Switzerland
Festivals and religious holidays

Assessment Criteria

Student has done the self assessment.
He has accomplished all the assignments of the course thoroughly and according to the timetable and instructions.
The essay of the culture topic shows that the student has applied himself to the topic. References are versatile.

He has accomplished all the assignments of the course according to the timetable and instructions.
He has discussed the culture topic from various viewpoints. References are versatile enough.

He has accomplished all the assignments of the course but has not spent much time to e.g. edit texts or learning vocabulary.
Timetables have not always been followed.
The student has discussed the culture topic very briefly.

Assessment Methods
Self assessment on the Common European Framework of Reference (A2-C2)
Exercises will be assessed on the scale 1-5 and the assessment is based on student’s individual starting level
- short Moodle exams
- written exercises
- spoken exercises (recordings)
- written essay on a culture topic
Work Placement
Work placement is not included in the course.
Further Information
The students needs an internet access.
The learning environment is SeAMK’s Moodle platform.
Spoken exercises will be recorded either with mobile phones or Moodle recorder.
