Learning Outcomes

Students will further their knowledge of the problems associated with the well-being, health and social affairs of the elderly and of the means, methods and systems for influencing these issues at the level of the individual, the community and the society. Students will enhance their abilities to acquire and process information. They will reinforce their gerotological expertise in working as case managers for individual elderly people and as co-ordinators of multi-professional elderly care.

Contents

Students familiarise themselves with a problem pertaining to the well-being and health of elderly people, and produce a manual folder to discuss the underlying factors of the problem, case management, service pathway, the care and rehabilitation system, multi-professional collaboration, individual service solutions, quality management systems, and the duties and roles of Bachelors of Social Services and Health Care/elderly care.

Possible topics may include the elderly person and depression/loneliness, diabetes, recovery from thigh amputation, abuse, alcohol problems, recovery from stroke, cancer, or similar topic.
