Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire basic knowledge of the illnesses and health behaviours of Finns, and of current health political challenges. Students will have command of the central concepts associated with epidemiology, they will be familiar with the methods of measuring and compiling statistics on the population's health/illness, and practise reading health statistics. Students know how to utilize online material on health and health policies.They will be aware of the main contents of important health political target and action programmes. Students will also be familiar with the core contents of health-care policy legislation and know the structure and functions of the health service delivery system at different levels.

- Basic epidemiological concepts
- Measuring health, statistics in Finland, important registers and publications
- Life management and health behaviour problems in Finland
- Hereditary diseases, new and old prevalent diseases
- Morbidity in Finland in light of statistics
- Environmental and community-related health problems
- Global health problems
- Important health programmes: HFA-21, KASTE, and the government's health promotion policy
- Health-care legislation (e.g. Acts listed in the 2008 registration guidelines by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health and the 2011 Health Care Act ) and their core contents.
