Learning Outcomes
Students will learn to study and develop elderly care by qualitative research methods. They will learn to conduct a qualitative research process based on informed methodological and ethical choices. They will know how to develop research questions for qualitative research. They will learn to select suitable data and analyse it by basic qualitative research methods. They will learn to evaluate and apply knowledge produced by qualitative research. Students will know how to produce knowledge using qualitative research methods, to be applied to planning, coordination and development of elderly care practice.

Contents
Developing qualitative research questions,
research plan and the qualitative research process,
data collection methods, qualitative content analysis,
reporting on qualitative research, research ethics and reliability, producing knowledge and applying it to practice.

Assessment Criteria
Level 1 (grade 1-2)
Students know how to study work with the elderly using qualitative research methods. They are aware of how research questions are developed in qualitative research. They know how to use qualitative methods and reflect on ethical issues. Students are able to select appropriate data and analyse it using basic qualitative methods. They are able to apply qualitative research knowledge to the practice of elderly care.
Level 2 (grade 3-4)
Students know how to study work with the elderly using qualitative research methods. They are able to name qualitative research approaches and are aware of how research questions are developed in qualitative research. They are able to base their qualitative research process on informed methodological and ethical choices. Students are able to select appropriate data and analyse it using basic qualitative methods. They are able to both produce and apply qualitative research knowledge for the practice and development of elderly care.
Level 3 (grade 5)
Students know how to study work with the elderly using qualitative research methods. They are able to name qualitative research approaches and relate them to how research questions are developed in qualitative research. They are able to base their qualitative research process on informed methodological and ethical choices. Students are able to select appropriate data and analyse it using basic qualitative methods. They are able to apply qualitative research knowledge to the practice of elderly care. They are able to use qualitative research methods to produce knowledge for the planning, coordination and development of elderly care practice.
