Administration and academic authorities

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is maintained by the limited company of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The main shareholder of the company is the City of Seinäjoki. Other shareholders include the Seinäjoki Joint Municipal Authority for Education, the Municipality of Ilmajoki and the towns of Kurikka and Ähtäri.

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences employs about 235 academic staff members. The staff working in RDI projects and the administrative and support personnel included, the total number of the staff at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is about 365.

The shareholders' meeting has the supreme power of decision at Seinäjoki UAS. The company's Board of Directors makes the decisions concerning strategy and strategic operations. There are nine members in the board. Dr. Tapio Varmola is both the President of the University of Applied Sciences and the Managing Director of the company.

Mr. Tapio Varmola, the President of the University of Applied Sciences, manages the operations according to strategies and other policies defined by the Board. RDI Director Elina Varamäki acts as a deputy to the President/Managing Director. The RDI Director also manages the library and information services and the student services. Mr Joe Gummerus, the Director of Administration, manages the administration of the University of Applied Sciences.

At Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, there are four faculties focusing on education and RDI:

  • School of Food and Agriculture, Dean Antti Pasila
  • School of Business and Culture, Dean Anmari Viljamaa
  • School of Health Care and Social Work, Dean Asta Heikkilä
  • School of Technology, Dean Jorma Nevaranta

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is a multi-disciplinary institution of higher education operating in two locations (City of Seinäjoki and Municipality of Ilmajoki) and three campuses (Frami, Koskenala and Ilmajoki). Adult education is also offered at the Regional University of Applied Sciences in the towns of Kauhava and Kurikka, as well as in the subregions of Järviseutu, Kuusiokunnat and Suupohja.
